Unlike a fasting blood sugar test, it does not reflect just one point in time. The HbA1c test measures the percentage of hemoglobin in your red blood cells that has glucose attached to it. Since red blood cells live for about 120 days, the result provides an estimate of your average blood sugar over the previous 2–3 months.
